Funding

1.    Analytical Mass Spectrometry

Molecular Processes Program

Ames Lab - USDOE

Continuing support at variable levels since 1982

~$140K annual direct costs FY 1990-9

~$66K direct costs FY 2000 - 02

Externally reviewed and renewed for FY02-07

2).   Laser Ablation ICP-MS for Profiling Solids as Evidence

Cooperative Agreement between FBI and NA-22, USDOE

Collaborative work with D. Baldwin to improve analytical figures of merit of laser ablation ICP-MS for direct analysis of solids.

Additional collaborations with R. Russo (LBNL) and D. Klumper (LLNL)

$170K equipment and ~ $80K operating expenses for RSH for FY 1999

~$75K/yr. operating expenses for FY 2000-07

3).  The Origins of Polyatomic Ions in ICP-MS

NSF, Analytical and Surface Chemistry Program

       Collaborative project with M. Gordon

       $168k direct costs, $245k total for 2003-2007

My group identifies polyatomic ions and measures their abundances; Gordon’s group calculates the structures of the ions.  Combining this information allows measurement of the temperature corresponding to the region the ions are formed.

4).  Mass Spectrometric Imaging of Plant Metabolites

      Ames Lab USDOE

Collaborative project with E. S. Yeung and B. Nikolau

$1.6M total budget for FY 05-07
